What if you could be the person that you want to be?
What if you could date the person you want to date?
Those are the questions that the minds behind Virtual Reality Dating Game One Secret Fantasy are asking and by the sounds of it they are looking to provide us with the answers; at least, that is what their website would have us believe.
So what exactly is One Secret Fantasy? Well, at this point it doesn’t appear to be much more than a couple of decent renders of sexy bods, a somewhat bare-bones web page and a whole lot of ambition (ambition is good); but the concept at least has us thinking: This is one idea that could have some amazing applications in VR.
With the level of immersion that is possible in virtual reality today, devices like the Oculus Rift make it possible to feel like you have been blasted off to another dimension, or that you are wandering in a dream world. Couple this together with something like a dating/romance simulation and you have a powerful combination that is quite possibly capable of pulling on your heart strings in such a way that only real life could manage to before; provided the devs can get the AI to feel smooth and natural enough to avoid breaking the spell.
Imagine for a moment that you are a lonely guy (or girl) and perhaps your partner has left you for somebody else. You want to do whatever you can to feel loved, so you decide to go out looking for somebody to quickly fill the gap. With a VR dating sim, rather than get caught on the rebound and put yourself in a potentially awkward or even emotionally dangerous situation, you could strap on your Oculus Rift (or whatever other VR-HMD you happen to own) turn on a game like what One Secret Fantasy hopes to achieve and drown your sorrows in the bosom of a virtual-maiden (or the lap of a man), specifically configured to cater to your particular emotional needs.
Now of course, the possibility exists that there are those people who would find themselves unfortunately in love with a virtual lover and hopelessly addicted to the program; but if developers manage things the right way, like giving the player who spends too much time in game a friendly warning that they should remember that they are in a game world (perhaps in the form of their virtual-vixen subtly hinting that they need to go back to real life and that they are not, in fact real), than the possibility of such issues cropping up could likely be minimized, if not nearly eliminated altogether.
Whether or not One Secret Fantasy will be able to manage the job is anybody’s guess at this point, knowing as little as we do so far; but we have reached out to the developers for an interview, so as soon as we know more we will update accordingly.
How do all of you feel about the idea of a VR dating simulation? Is it a good idea or do you think perhaps it might be a little dangerous, causing lonely people to lose sight of real life?
