One of the most promising applications of the Oculus Rift and other devices in the vr porn world, is the ability to not only play games but to watch vr porn movies in all of their immersive glory; giving you the feeling like you are actually there (potentially).
Whether you’re rockin’ out with your cock out to 2d porn in a virtual theater like those found in the Janus Browser or Riftmax Theater applications (both of which are great for stereoscopic movies as well btw), or enjoying an eyeful of boob watching 180° video such as those that OculusRealPorn virtualrealporn.com provides;  it’s no stretch to see the massive potential that exists; but it also serves to highlight some of the drawbacks that the technology currently has.
Take for example the aformentioned ORP (OculusRealPorn) virtualrealporn.com:  The girls are sexy (very), the quality is good and the ability to look around  160° or 180° (it varies between videos) is definitely enough to get us aroused; but given the fact that it is designed exclusively for use with the Rift, how good is it really? Well, for starters, let us just say that there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever in our possibly (slightly) twisted and definitely perverted minds that OculusRealPorn.com virtualrealporn.com is currently the best in vr porn movie entertainment available; but having said that, it is necessary to point out that the genre is still young and there are still alot of aggravating problems. The stereoscopy feels off for one, the depth just isn’t really there, and there is something about the spherical FOV – not only with ORP but with other high-degree-of-viewing videos as well – that disrupts the immersion and ultimately breaks the spell.
Now that doesn’t mean that the service isn’t worth subscribing to, it certainly is; but it does mean that what we end up with, as sexy and interesting as it is, is not quite where we would like vr porn movie to be. It just doesn’t bridge the gap between fantasy and reality in the way we hoped VR would make possible and it’s difficult to say as to exactly what and how long it will take before we reach that point.
This isn’t ORP’s fault of course, but rather unavoidable restrictions of current viewing and production methods at work against us.

Anybody else think this 360° stereo cam looks like a half-set of futuristic Ben-Wa balls? Nah, it's a °360 stereo cam

Anyone else think this 360° stereo cam looks like a half-set of futuristic Ben-Wa balls? POV anybody?

On the other side of the vr porn coin (games vs movies) we have a similar story: Take for example the enticing and alluring Veiviev demos, which try (and come quite close) to bridge the gap between real-life and video game, making available possibilities that wouldn’t otherwise exist without VR (which would be the ultimate way to view vr porn in our opinion), but the 3D scanning tech that is necessary to produce such material is expensive and cumbersome, requiring not only extensive knowledge of the process, but a lot of experience and boatloads of cash; making it a poor choice for the “average” pornographer (if not completely out of reach).
As well, currently the models in the Veiviev demos do not move, which is a huge setback for that method of production. It’s more than just a little tease seeing these gorgeous real women in all their “majesty” (hot and naked) and not only can’t you touch them, you can’t see them move. For the time being at least, we are limited to looking at attractive statues.

So where does that leave us? Well, I think that currently it’s just a matter of taking the “sit and see” approach. As better 360° stereo-camera tech becomes available – and affordable – (the lapdance panocam videos are a definite step in the right direction, but still imperfect)  I am sure we will see services like OculusRealPorn.com VirtualRealPorn.com update along the way, improving things substantially in the process. Still rather fresh, having posted their first videos just over 8 months ago, they have kept to their promises so far and made things substantially better and that is a good sign that they will continue to do so as things go along (and others will follow suit).

As far as the awesome and amazing 3D scanning tech that Veiviev offers, well this is more of the wait and less of the see. Although they have said they are working on movement (scroll through the relevant comments at the bottom of their Lucid-Dreams post , found here, Authors note: The lucid dreams II demo has been moved to the vrgirlz.com website and can now be found here.)
they have also said it involves a lot of time and money to implement such a feature (just how much time and how much money is anybody’s guess); and even at that, we aren’t likely to see anything other than subtle body movements (breathing, eyes moving, etc.) for a long time to come.

Statues can be sexy too.

Statues can be sexy too.

It’s kind of funny if you think about it, we have all this extraordinary technology making possible the stuff of our dreams, but we don’t have the necessary bits to make full use of it. Currently the VR Porn world is kind of like a vagina or a penis that looks good but smells (just slightly) bad: You want to kiss it or give it a lick, but there is just a little bit of apprehension that it might make you sick.
